How to maintain healthy sleeping habits

We asked Dr. Nerina Ramlakhan, our rejuvenation and sleep expert, how to sleep so all is calm during hectic times.

When life is hectic, it’s easy to fall into unhealthy sleep habits. And with all of the challenges going on in the world, we need to prioritize getting good rest. So, how to have healthy sleeping habits?

Create routines and rituals to sleep deeply and awaken with the energy and resilience to greet the day and thrive. Our body responds best when we get into a good routine with our sleep which means (at least most of the time) getting into bed at more or less the same time and waking up at the same time every day.

The sleep phase before midnight is particularly powerful and restores us on every level – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It’s important that we’re not missing out on this vital phase because we’re staying up to watch our favorite shows or delaying getting into bed which may lead to hitting snooze in the morning. Oversleeping in the mornings can lead to feeling more tired, sluggish and feeling low. This is called sleep inertia. So how do we avoid feeling less than best?

Sleep is only one way of recovering energy and so, during these dark wintry months, make sure that you’re getting enough exercise, eating and drinking healthily and getting out into nature. You will be rewarded by even deeper and more nourishing sleep and even more energy with which to enjoy the holiday season.
