Six tips to unwind at the end of the day

We asked best-selling author and world-renowned wellness and body alignment expert Lauren Roxburgh to share her favorite ways to unwind after a long day.

Sleep is key to our overall wellness so finding ways to unwind and transition from the yang (doing) of the day to the yin (being) is key to cultivating better sleep and a more natural rhythm. I call this sleep hygiene. When we sleep, our tissues and cells renew, muscles heal and our minds rest. Plus, sleep is essential for healthy skin, mood and weight.

Here are Lauren’s top tips to relax at the end of each day:

Eat a light dinner.

I try not to eat after 7pm so my body can heal, restore and replenish itself while at rest.

Turn devices to airplane mode.

I give myself a "curfew" two hours before bed because screens emit blue light, preventing the body from making melatonin.

Body rolling.

I love to roll to smooth our tension, hydrate tissues and build long lean and strong muscles.

Journaling.

Helps release any negative thought patterns and practice gratitude.

Take a healing salt bath.

Helps relieve tension, pain, soreness while detoxifying and delivering minerals to the tissues.

Take magnesium powder.

Helps restore and calm the nervous system.
