Refreshing Essential Oils for Spring

Aromatherapy expert Valencia McClure recommends a few floral and citrus oils to help you spring into action this season.

Springtime has officially sprung, and we are all ready to revel in the sunshine. Spring sparks renewed energy, excitement, and the blooming of flowers and trees. With that in mind, the changing of the seasons also brings about a chance to refresh your life and home.

When I think about essential oils and the sunny season, I reflect on floral and citrus oils with their uplifting and energizing aroma. Open your home and flourish your senses with these spring worthy essential oils:

Soak in scents of citrus. After dealing with the woes of winter, it is vital to get going. Citrus-focused essential oils are all about awakening, uplifting, and energizing the mind, body, and spirit. Try using lemon essential oil, which not only fights sluggishness, but also may rejuvenate your mood and mind. As an added bonus, because of its antibacterial properties, the oil aids in eliminating toxins. Plus, it can also be used in cleaning products and diffusers.

When you’re in search of your happy place, start the day by using sweet orange or grapefruit essential oils. Sweet orange reduces nervous tension while providing you with a sense of cheerfulness and clarity. When it comes to grapefruit essential oils, it’s positive vibes all around. Grapefruit keeps you in a happy headspace while maintaining your vitality.

Go for flower power. Bloom like never before with floral essential oils. Floral-focused essential oils can minimize anxiety, boost antioxidants, and even give you a more youthful appearance. Ease the feelings of stress and reduce negativity with a lavender essential oil.

In addition, lavender can keep you calm and encourage a peaceful night of sleep. Besides getting more rest, these days many of us may find that we could use a bit more patience, too. To promote serenity, try geranium essential oil to improve tolerance and fight feelings of hopelessness.

Enjoy a bit of eucalyptus. If springtime flowers tend to bring you a few itchy-eye–showers, look no further than eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils. Eucalyptus has a calming effect on seasonal allergies, as it lessens pain and respiratory discomfort. This oil also supports reducing mental fatigue and inflammation. Similarly, peppermint essential oil may relieve headaches, nasal congestion and foster easy breathing. Peppermint essential oil can also provide you with a jolt of energy while banishing bad vibes.

Try a blend, too. Here are a few spring-inspired essential oil blends you can diffuse to help you navigate through this season:

Breathe Easy Blend – 3 drops Eucalyptus (Globulus), 4 drops Lemon (Citrus limon), 2 drops Peppermint (Mentha piperita)

Springtime Blend – 4 drops Lemon (Citrus limon), 4 drops Orange (Citrus sinensis), 3 drops Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi)

Invigorating Blend 2 drops Peppermint (Mentha piperita), 3 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and 4 drops Lemon (Citrus limon)

As we enter into spring, remember to be good to yourself — mind, body and spirit. Get energized. Get uplifted. Get going!
